💸 #0043 - How a 5% Bet Beat the Market

How a 5% Bet Beat the Market

INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY

Most people build portfolios like this:

A little risk here, a little safety there, hope it all works out.

That’s how you end up average. Or broke.

But if you’re tired of playing it safe and want something that works, here’s the strategy you need…

The Barbell Investing Strategy :

It’s super simple, just put:

  • 90–95% of your money in super safe options (cash, T-bills, short-term bonds)

  • 5–10% in risky bets (options, startups, crypto, etc.)

Why?

Because most big returns come from a few outliers.

And most losses come from trying to “play it safe” with mediocre bets that aren’t safe, especially in current market states.

Here’s a real-life example:

$100K portfolio

  • $95K in T-bills @ 4.5% = $4,275

  • $5K in high-risk crypto trades, aiming for a 150% return, could grow to $11,775.

With this approach, you could see an 11.8% return, all while keeping 95% of your money completely safe.

Now, compare that to the traditional 60/40 portfolio, which usually pulls in around 6.6%.

The barbell offers similar (or better) returns with significantly less exposure.

Note that, like any other investing strategy, the Barbell Strategy isn’t without risks.

You need to understand how markets move and that there is always a potential for loss. So only invest amounts you’re comfortable losing

Todays takeaway

You don’t need to take more risks.

You need to take smarter risks with smaller amounts.

The Barbell Strategy helps you:

  1. Sleep through market crashes

  2. Still hit big on black swan winners

  3. Avoid mediocre returns from “safe” middle-ground bets

With markets uncertain and interest rates high, the Barbell Strategy lets you keep most of your money safe while making a few speculative bets that could lead to high rewards.

Big upside. Limited downside. No crystal ball needed.
